What is Emotional Intelligence (EQ) AND WHY IS IT KEY TO YOUR SUCCESS?
Emotional intelligence is the loving facilitator for "how" we do "what" we do.
Intelligence refers to the ability to apply and acquire knowledge and skills. When the knowledge and skills of Emotional Intelligence are applied, EI contributes to how effectively we:
- Perceive and express ourselves,
- Develop and maintain healthy and meaningful relationships with others,
- Cope with and manage stress, fear, and anxiety,
- Navigate ongoing challenges and change, and
- Use the information in thoughts and emotions in effective and transformational ways.
The measure of our emotional intelligence is what we call our emotional quotient or EQ.
If you think back to your experiences in grade school how many courses did you complete that related to developing your self awareness and personal and interpersonal effectiveness? Most people I work with would answer: "none" or "very few." When I ask the same question with respect to experiences in college, university or trade school I usually get the same answer.
Skills like reading, writing, math, science, memorizing, planning, rational problem solving, logical thinking and comprehending complex ideas are all important to us yet they relate to an intelligence that we measure through our intellectual quotient or IQ.
Therefore EQ is a different measure of our intelligence than IQ yet much of our traditional institutional learning has primarily focused on developing our IQ. Why is this case? We simply need to go back to what we believed was most important for success during the industrial revolution.
Fast forward 150 years to today's turbulent and constantly changing world and our success depends not only on how well we engage our IQ but also on how well we engage our EQ.
If you 'are' happier and more loving, peaceful and focused you are going to 'be' more productive and more effective in your leadership. This is the simple yet powerful outcome when you are better engaging your EQ.
The great news is that you already have this capacity in you. You simply may not yet recognize how to best tap in to the potential of what you already possess.
How do you unleash your full potential? It's easier than you think. Let us work with you to show you how.

“If you 'are' happier and more loving, peaceful and focused you are going to 'be' more productive and more effective in your leadership. This is the simple yet powerful outcome when you are better engaging your EQ.”
